Applicants must have at least 5 credit passes in WAEC, SSCE, NECO, or GCE O’Level at not more than two sittings, including Mathematics, English Language, Chemistry, Physics and Biology. Combination of WAEC and NECO, WAEC and WAEC, or NECO and NECO is acceptable. However, NABTEB cannot be combined with WAEC or NECO or another NABTEB. The School of Nursing of University of Calabar Teaching Hospital (UCTH) started nursing training in April, 1979. Students were admitted and jointly trained with the students admitted by the Cross River State Ministry of Health in school of Nursing, St. Margaret Hospital Calabar, located in the premise of the college of Health Technology along Mary Slessor Avenue. However, in November, 2009, School of Nursing of University of Calabar Teaching Hospital (UCTH) was fully accredited.
